New Driveway/Parking Lot Installation Process:
Removal of the existing driveway is required to begin work. A bobcat is used to take up any pavement, roots, or rocks. Once the grade is determined as a base to the asphalt, anywhere from 4 to 6 inches of gravel or processed stone is spread. The end of the driveway is saw cut for a straight edge and to tie into the street. This process is followed by the compression from our 2 to 4 ton roller.
Commercial binder is then brought in and layered with approximately 3 inches of asphalt, followed by 1 ½ inches of top coat by a paver machine, with compaction in between. To complete the process the asphalt is compressed by a roller machine, followed by a compaction plate. Sides are hand tamped for a straight edge, as well as areas where the roller cannot reach.
Overlay Installation:
Overlays are for driveways or parking lots with little or no cracks with an asphalt basecoat. You have this option when adding a new section to your space. The existing area will be given a new layer giving it a updated look to match your new work.
The existing space will be cleaned, then layered and compressed with approximately 2 inches of asphalt by the paver unit. This is also finished by a roller and compactor machine for areas not in reach.
After Completion:
Do not park or drive on your driveway or lot for at least 3 days (longer if the weather is extremely hot). The asphalt will harden or soften depending on the climate even after a long period of time, since it does not ever completely harden like cement.
Do not use power steering or sharp objects as it will tear the pavement and leave marks.
Avoid driving off the edge of the driveway since it will cause it to crack.
Seal Coating:
Seal coating is done to protect and maintain your driveway or parking lot. It shields from gas and oil spills, water penetration, and slow oxidation. It also makes for easy cleaning and maintenance. It is recommended after 24-36 months of new installation, as it will extend the life of your area. The space will be cleaned and then the seal coated for accurate application.
